George started in life in the hills of Kentucky. And spent most of his adult life in the great State of ALASKA. George’s temperament was great and he had an unbelievable personality. He was loved by everyone who met him. It would not be an understatement to say the numbers were in the thousands. And George was totally gorgeous to boot. He started Weight Pulling as a heavyweight; about three years ago at a “novice” pull, and pulled 1500 pounds.
His next pull would be his career high of 3200 pounds and turned “professional”. George had figured out this could be fun. A few titles later, and the 2004-2005 season started. He was unbelievable and what a year George had. Undefeated in every pull entered. At the World championship Dog Weight Pull(sm) the snow was getting “sticky” and the weights were getting up there. He thought he couldn’t do it as did the thousands in the crowd. A hand appeared near Georges face and a voice told him, “calm down, listen to me, you can do it, trust me you can do it, now pull”. His head went down, and as he pulled thru the finish line turned his head at the cheering crowd and gave them his “happy face”, like he was saying “that wasn’t hard at all”. That was his last career competition pull. He had earned his Heavyweight World title, the three tittles possible thru Saint Bernard Club of America. And was ranked #1 in the Unlimited Weight class on snow in the entire USA by Doggpower.com.
Sadly, only five months later, and just under seven years old, Twin Branch’s Gorgeous George had to be put to sleep due to severe atrophy.
It’s usually the dog who learns from its owner, but not this time. He taught me to love, to be more understanding, to give a little more. To slow down in life and enjoy every moment we are given, when my health was failing, to try harder and not to give up. He was the greatest. He was my George, my bubba, my buddy, my companion, but most of all, George was my friend. Your sadly missed Big Guy.
